Op-Ed (Repost): Wealth Hoarding Harms Nonprofits

“As federal safety nets shrink and authoritarianism takes greater hold, it’s clear the country is in a generation-defining moment. But by moving away from perpetuity as a measure of success and increasing their giving, funders can help build a better future.”
In a letter to the editor of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, alvin starks and Helen Wong, Borealis Vice Presidents of Programs, wrote that “Wealth Hoarding Harms Nonprofits” and that spending down wealth is perhaps the one true measure of solidarity with communities. As we’ve witnessed, government support of our communities is not guaranteed—and the attacks on our people require money, capacity, and critical resources. Funders must step up to safeguard movements to ensure our collective safety.
