Earlier this year, Borealis announced the launch of the Immigration Litigation Fund (ILF). The goal of the Fund is to ensure the nation’s immigration enforcement system is fair, humane, and prioritizes the civil and human rights of those vulnerable to deportation. The ILF believes that impact litigation is essential to achieving change on immigration issues, and prioritizes efforts connected to, and coordinated with, immigrant communities and organizations.
The Fund’s first round of grantmaking, which concluded on August 17th of this year, approved 37 grants totaling more than $2.3 million. The ILF is excited to announce it is now accepting applications through March 1, 2018 for its second round of funding.
The ILF will provide funding in three areas: litigation support, travel, and convenings. Both public interest legal groups and community-based organizations are encouraged to apply if they are engaged in current or proposed impact litigation efforts. Generally, grants to cover these costs should be related to an unanticipated need.
Please carefully review the ILF funding priorities and FAQs before submitting an application as there have been some changes to ILF’s grantmaking process. Please also be sure to reach out to Borealis staff at ILF@borealisphilanthropy.org to discuss your project before submitting your application.
