Borealis Philanthropy’s Fund for Trans Generations (FTG) proudly resources trans-led organizations that are building futures where trans, gender non-conforming (GNC) and nonbinary people can live with self-determination, access joy, and thrive beyond our wildest imaginations. Last month, the FTG awarded $1.2 million in flexible, general operating support to 31 trans-led organizations, fueling their transformative work that is paving the way for a more inclusive and beautiful future for us all.

For the eighth consecutive year, the FTG’s grantmaking decisions were guided by an Advisory Committee of trans and GNC movement leaders, whose expertise spans housing accessibility, policy and advocacy, mutual aid, harm reduction, reproductive justice, healing justice, and workforce development. Grounded in their lived experiences, this group brought deep wisdom and care to the process, embodying FTG’s commitment to participatory decision-making, ensuring grantmaking remains rooted in the needs and visions of our communities.

Their collaborative process yielded a grantee cohort that highlights the breadth and impact of trans leadership across movements. From creating safe housing solutions to advocating for disability justice, and building supportive networks for LGBTQ+ youth to providing legal support and resources, fostering leadership in rural communities, and safeguarding sanctuaries for health and wellness—these leaders are securing safety, vital resources, and holistic healing in their communities, bringing us all closer to liberation.

Please join us in celebrating FTG’s 2024 grantee cohort:

Although funding for trans movements has increased in recent years, for every $100 awarded by U.S. Foundations, only 25 cents specifically supports LGBTQ communities, underscoring a critical gap in the equitable distribution of resources—one that philanthropy has a moral imperative to address. Since its inception in 2016, the FTG has moved over $10 million dollars to trans-led organizations, working to bridge this gap.
