Borealis Philanthropy is excited to announce the first round of grants for the Fund for Trans Generations (FTG.) As part of this initial grant cycle, the FTG received over 130 letters of inquiry (LOI.) We are thrilled to provide grants to over 50 trans-led groups and projects from across the U.S. ranging from $15,000 to $30,000.
The FTG is committed to supporting groups with limited access to resources. Supported projects have annual budgets ranging from $0 to $525,000 and 69% of grantees have budgets of $75,000 or less.
Our grantees represent a cross-section of the diverse trans-led work happening in the United States today on the local, state, regional, and national levels. Issues grantees are focusing on include:
- Safety and security;
- Criminalization, incarceration, and deportation;
- Changing public discourse;
- Leadership development and training, and;
- Access to healing and healing justice.
FTG grantees include organizations led by or serving communities that have historically been excluded from national funding, including trans people who are: girls and women, youth of color, rural activists, people with disabilities, from indigenous groups, elders, incarcerated and/or formerly incarcerated.
As part of the grantmaking process, the FTG created an Advisory Committee of 5 trans and gender non-conforming organizers, activists, and leaders from across the U.S. This committee reviewed each LOI to help the FTG determine which organizations to invite to submit full proposals.
The FTG is a grantmaking initiative of Anonymous Donors, Arcus Foundation, and NoVo Foundation. For more information about the FTG, please visit the Fund’s page on the Borealis website. The FTG also houses a “Rapid Response” fund for groups responding to unanticipated events and strategic opportunities. Download the FTG Rapid Response FAQ for details.
