We know from history that the most vulnerable communities are the first targets of injustice, exclusion, and authoritarian actions. Those living at the intersections of race, gender, disability, and queerness are the canaries in the coal mine of democracy. These are also the very communities that have led safety, liberation, justice, and democracy organizing and policy work for the last 400 years—they are the architects of every civil rights victory in our country’s history. When we build for them—and elevate their wisdom, leadership, and solutions—we build a democracy that works for all.

By supporting intersectional power-building, systems transformation, and community resilience efforts, we aim to advance justice and inclusion for all historically excluded communities.

To date, Borealis has invested $95 million in grassroots organizers advancing cross-movement work to dismantle the interconnected systems that uphold racial, gender, and ableist oppression. Across this ecosystem, our partners are organizing together to expand access to civic participation for disabled, trans, and Black folks, securing critical social protections for the most vulnerable, strengthening mutual aid networks across cities and states, and shifting culture through arts and storytelling.

As a philanthropic intermediary, Borealis Philanthropy exists to bridge philanthropy to the frontlines of movements for justice. By supporting Borealis’ work, you can bolster critical democracy-saving organizing efforts, from movement infrastructure and beyond.
